Every few washes is plenty and there is no benefit to doing it every time. Go by the water rather than the calendar: when beading flattens off and the car stops drying itself, it is due.
You can and it will not damage anything, but it sits on top of the coating and masks it rather than refreshing it, so you end up maintaining the wax instead of the coating you paid for. An SiO2 topper does the same job in the same ten minutes and works with the layer underneath.
Usually not. Road film, wax residue and hard water build up on top and the surface stops behaving like a coating while the coating is still there. A proper decontamination followed by a topper brings most of them back. If it does not, that is when a coating has genuinely gone.
